Outside the ClassroomAt Fisher, you will find many social opportunities that will provide lasting connections and friendships. Each class becomes a tightly knit network that will link you to resources and contacts long after graduation day. EMBA Welcome ReceptionThe week-long orientation in December marks the beginning of the EMBA program and the first time that the EMBA students meet their classmates and team members. To welcome the new cohort of students and to help everyone get acquainted, the EMBA staff holds a reception/dinner at The Blackwell on the Tuesday evening of orientation. Since we recognize that the program will become a big part of each student’s life during its 17-month duration, we encourage everyone to bring a guest to the dinner so that they too can meet EMBA classmates, staff, and faculty. Family Day BBQThis event, which takes place during lunch on Saturday of the June on-campus session, is always a favorite for the EMBA students. Since classmates form close friendships by this point in the program, it is an opportunity to introduce them to spouses, partners, and children. In addition to tasty BBQ dishes, Family Day includes face painters, caricature artists, music, and photos with our own Brutus Buckeye.
Thursday Evening SpeakersEach month after the EMBA students finish their Thursday classes, students switch gears and attend an informal evening reception that includes a presentation by a top level executive from the business community. Past speakers have included presidents or vice presidents of corporations, authors, entrepreneurs, and the Lt. Governor of the state of Ohio. Often speakers are nominated by the EMBA students themselves. The events typically include a Q&A or an informal chat session so that students can network. Annual Pre-Graduation Golf EventHeld each April as part of the festivities of the final April on-campus weekend, the EMBA golf outing is a great way for students to enjoy some down time w/ their classmates, alumni and faculty. The venue usually rotates but always takes place at one of Ohio’s exceptional courses.EMBA Graduation PromenadeAn EMBA tradition that takes place during the final on-campus weekend. Students are lead in caps and gowns through the Fisher College campus by faculty and administration while serenaded by bagpiper. The promenade concludes on the steps of the Fisher building where students are greeted by the Dean and a class photo is taken. The graduating class then serves up a roast of their favorite faculty and class moments.EMBA Commencement ReceptionCompleting the EMBA program is a time to acknowledge achievements. Before the main Ohio State University commencement, students, family and friends enjoy a pre-commencement brunch at The Blackwell Hotel. The reception is a time to recognize all of the graduates, as well as a class valedictorian and other standout faculty and students. After 17 busy months, this is a time for graduates to unwind, enjoy good food, and celebrate with their classmates, faculty, friends, and family. |
