Bob Cohn is Senior Counsel for the American Electric Power Service Corporation, located in Columbus, Ohio, specializing in labor and employment law. Prior to graduating from Capital University Law School in 1990, Mr. Cohn worked as a human resources professional for companies in the utility, steel, and manufacturing industries, as well as retail and public sector companies, for more than 10 years.
Mr. Cohn has been engaged in the practice of law for over 20 years. He was an Associate with the law firm of Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur in Cleveland, Ohio, representing clients in labor and employment law matters. As Senior Counsel for AEP, Mr. Cohn is responsible for managing all employment-related litigation throughout the company’s 11-state region, and is actively involved in representing AEP and its subsidiaries in administrative matters pending before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, state fair employment practice agencies, the National Labor Relations Board, and the Department of Labor, as well as in the arbitration setting. He also regularly provides advice, guidance and training to AEP’s executives, managers and supervisors on employment-related matters.
Mr. Cohn also worked for AEP as the Vice President – Human Resources for AEP’s Commercial Operations and Power Generation business units, which consisted of coal mining operations, power trading, gas production, transportation and storage facilities, and a fleet of coal, gas, hydroelectric, wind and nuclear power plants. With a staff of 45 human resource professionals located in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia to support approximately 13,000 employees, Mr. Cohn was responsible for participating in the development of strategic business unit goals and objectives, and developing and implementing human resource strategies in support of those goals and objectives.
Mr. Cohn is a member of the Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, and the Columbus Bar Association. Mr. Cohn graduated from Kenyon College with a B.A. in History, The Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Labor and Human Resources, and Capital University Law School with a JD in Law.
