Preparation for business instruction at the undergraduate level; focuses on development of college business teachers through practice-centered inquiry. Su Qtr. 1 cl. Prereq: Ph.D. student enrolled in College of Business. Limited to 20 students. MHR 815 (Formerly 894.77)- Enhancing Written Communication (EWC)
The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with the tools and techniques needed to enhance and improve their written skills in a business setting. Concepts, activities and specific tools and techniques for dealing with a variety of written projects as students consider leadership and management roles in business. This class will include lecture, discussion, case analysis based on readings, and practice of a variety of written styles and techniques. In this case, students will be prepared to write many papers and enhance their ability to articulate the written word. This course assists students in another communication skill (a coordinated effort with Enhancing Professional Interchange and Advanced Professional Interchange) which is needed within the framework of the Fisher MBA program. The course focuses on using understandings and insights gleaned from observation, research, and reflection to communicate effectively in a variety of formats with diverse audiences. Speaking and writing in multiple contexts will be emphasized. MHR 845 (Formerly 894.73) - Advanced Professional Interchange (API)
The purpose of this course is to build on the baseline skills developed in the Enhancing Professional Interchange course (EPI). This course focuses on key elements of style and "polishing up techniques" in the presentations arena. Evaluation and critique move to a secondary level, where presentations are improved and strategies are formed for next steps. More focus on impromptu and organization techniques in presentation. This course is a chance for the student to take the rough" spots off of their personal presentation style and refine and polish their soft spots. This course continues to be very hands on with presentations due weekly.
