MHR 694.55 This course introduces students to concepts and activities related to entrepreneurship. As a foundation course in the new entrepreneurship minor, students will be exposed to a broad range of speakers as well as some marquee readings. Students will be provided with personal assessment tools as well as skills to help them succeed in new venture creation. Ultimately, students will understand the depth and breadth of entrepreneurship as it permeates society, they will understand the distinction between various entrepreneurial paths such as start-up entrepreneurship and corporate entrepreneurship, and they will begin to understand and identify the personal attributes that are necessary to succeed in entrepreneurial pursuits. sample syllabus
MHR 894.80-Technology Ventures This course applies a theoretical foundation for technology commercialization, utilizing the actual technologies evaluated and opportunities identified in the prerequisite course, BUS-MHR 894.61. Interdisciplinary teams develop evaluated technologies for further business plan development based on commercial potential. An emphasis of the course will be the development of the commercialization strategy, leading into the business plan. This stage of commercialization requires familiarity with technology analysis, market research tools, legal analysis, operational analysis, team and organizational issues, and financial analysis at a greater depth than in the previous course. Issues involving venture capital, private placement, company structures, stock issuance, management recruiting, and implementation will be introduced. Students will also be introduced to the processes of managing technology commercialization in a large company and initiating entrepreneurial activities. sample syllabus
