The primary objective of this course is to provide you with an understanding and appreciation of the basic functions of human resource management and current practices and issues. Because HRM is becoming less of a functional responsibility and more of manager’s responsibility, the theories and techniques taught in the course are applicable for all types of positions in all types of organizations that you may work in.

MHR 894X - Strategic Human Resource Management

This class will examine how companies formulate, implement, and evaluate human resource strategy. We will examine how companies use people flow, appraisal and reward, and employee relations systems to complement and support the strategic capabilities of the company. Specific strategic topics that will be examined include retention, mergers and acquisitions, downsizing, talent management, and variable pay.
