Last week students here at Fisher had a great opportunity to gather together and learn from Brucetta Williams, VP Consumer Marketing at BET. She was nice enough to fly in to Columbus and visit the Fisher community to discuss her career path and share advice for future business leaders.
Brucetta shared a few points of career advice that she swears by. Some of the advice she shared that jumped out at me are as follows:
On Sunday, May 1, 2011, I volunteered at the 2011 Fisher 5K. For those of you who don't know, The Fisher 5K is a charity race organized by the Fisher 5K Association at The Fisher College of Business. It is an annual run/walk race (3.1 miles) which began in 2004 and is the largest service event hosted by the Fisher graduate programs and the largest 5K race on campus. The proceeds of the race go to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus.
Ever notice yourself having a train of thought due to a recurring theme manifesting itself in your life events? No? Well then maybe you should pay closer attention.
Last we spoke, I just arrived in Peru and promised to provide you an update with pictures. I'm not one to disappoint . . . I just didn't realize there would be such an enormous lapse between posts. Well, as they say: "Time flies when you're having fun." Personally, I prefer: "Life happens when you're making other plans."
I have good news to report tonight…
A few weeks ago, Cardinal Health offered me a full-time position as a finance manager. After speaking with my family, friends, and former colleagues, I decided to accept the offer. I’m happy to have my job search complete and I’m even happier to be returning to a company I know and like. This past summer, I interned in Cardinal’s Nuclear Pharmacy division and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Over the next few months, I will work to improve my financial skill set and prepare myself for a successful start to my new career.
After a busy start to the quarter, things are finally slowing down. Part of the reason I have been so busy is because I have over-committed myself for the first quarter (taking 4 classes, teaching 2 classes, and leading the Fisher Graduate Student Association). It also doesn't help that my Cincinnati Reds made it to the playoffs (I needed to go home last Sunday to attend the game...
