It's almost that time for one of my favorite events of the year, the Fisher Games! Twice a year, the Graduate Programs Office puts together a day of friendly athletic competition for the students, faculty and staff. It's a great way to meet some of the students in the other programs and it's also fun to see the professors out there running, jumping, passing, and shooting with all of the students. This year the games will be at the RPAC on Friday, November 20th from 10am to 5pm. Even if you aren't participating, it's a great event to watch.
This weekend a couple dozen of the first year students participated in the P&G Case Competition. I’m proud to say that one of my mentees was on the winning team. Congrats to the uber-talented Shay Merritté and his teammates, Nancy, Brian and Prasant!
This year the student leadership is working hard on creating "One Fisher" by integrating all of the graduate programs together (MBA, MAcc, MLHR, MBLE, WPMBA). In the past the programs were very segregated and there was very little interaction between groups, even between the first year and second year MBA classes.
Imagine packing up and moving to a foreign country, say China for example, and beginning a two-year full time MBA program. All your classes are in Chinese, your books are in Chinese, three out of the five team members in your group are from China, you live in an apartment in a city that you don't know, your best friends are going to bed when you're waking up, and your mom and dad are literally on the other side of the planet. To say you're a little homesick is an understatement.
