Research & Business Partnerships

Maximizing Productivity

Douglas Lambert (top left), Raymond E. Mason Chair in Transportation and Logistics, and Michael Knemeyer (top right), assistant professor of logistics, published an article titled ”We’re in This Together” in the December 2004 issue of the Harvard Business Review. Their work with Wendy’s International and Tyson Foods to form a supply chain partnership model developed by Fisher College’s Global Supply Chain Forum aligned company expectations to ensure maximum productivity. Other companies that have benefited from the partnership model include Colgate-Palmolive, International Paper and Cargill.

Competing Through Service

The Cullman Foundation, Fisher College’s Initiative for Managing Services (IMS) and xecutive Education partnered to present the 12th Biennial W. Arthur Cullman Symposium. This year’s symposium examined how top-performing organizations such as Limited Brands, NetJets and the Mayo Clinic compete through service. Industry experts and Fisher College faculty, including Marketing Professor and IMS Director Neeli Bendapudi (left), presented a framework for evaluating an organization’s service model. Named in honor of one of Fisher College’s most distinguished faculty members, the Cullman Symposium is a forum where some of the world’s best thought leaders and practitioners meet and share ideas.

Lally–Darden–Fisher Retreat

Fisher College is becoming the premier incubator for training assistant professors in entrepreneurship. Last April, Management and Human Resource Professors Sharon Alvarez and Jay Barney partnered with the Center for Entrepreneurship to host the Lally–Darden–Fisher retreat. One of only a handful of similar conferences in the country, the retreat, entitled “Advances in Entrepreneurship Research and Theory,” was limited to under 45 guests from national and international schools including Wharton Business School; Singapore Management University; Ludwig Maximillan University, Munich; and Humboldt Universitat, Berlin. Participants’ papers not only served as the conference theme
but will also result in an upcoming Journal of Business Venturing special issue.
