Graduate ProgramsMBA Program![]() The second annual spring Fisher 5k Run and One-Mile Fun Walk included over 200 participants and generated more than $4,500 for the Children’s Hunger Alliance. Other activities organized by FisherServes include clothing and food drives, holiday giving and blood drives for the American Red Cross. Exploring Best PracticesTop recruiters and career services directors from the nation’s leading business schools met in December to examine the ever-changing MBA recruiting landscape. The second annual Summit at Fisher, titled “MBAs and Corporate America: Is the Love Affair Over?” brought the group together to explore best practices and to rethink MBA curriculum, branding and hiring changes. Keynote speaker, Mark Goldston, alum (BSBA ’77) and CEO of NetZero, discussed the challenges that face MBA students, the universities that educate them and the businesses that hire them. |

Rankings
Focusing on Leadership and Professional DevelopmentFisher College’s new Leadership and Professional Development (LPD) Curriculum is structured outside the classroom and provides students with opportunities to gain leadership experience and develop their skills based on individual interests and professional goals. Students may choose from activities such as career-focused seminars, student-led flagship events, networking events as well as technical skills, self-assessments and creativity in the workplace workshops. Another component of the LPD program is the Sander Flaum Leadership Series, which brings executives to campus to share their insights on motivating others, and the Fisher Thought Leaders Seminar, where faculty present their latest research to the Fisher College community at large. Created and managed by Karen Hopper Wruck (left), associate dean of MBA programs and Dean’s Distinguished Teaching Professor; Phyllis Schlesinger, senior lecturer in management and human resources; and Janet Sanfilippo, special associate to the dean, the LPD program also launched a team coaching and process facilitation program in which second-year MBA students coach first-year MBA teams to greater productivity and teamwork skills. Offering Networking OpportunitiesOver the past year, Fisher College’s Office of Career Services arranged a record number of career networking opportunities that brought MBA students together for high-quality, interactive discussions with top executives and alumni in Chicago, New York City and Pittsburgh. Among the firms participating in these events were Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Tropicana, Leo Burnett and McDonald’s. In addition, career services launched the Career Connections Travel Fund, which provides financial support for career-related travel by student groups. |

Celebrating Women in LeadershipStudents discussed leadership, careers and work-life balance with executives at Fisher College’s first Women in Leadership Summit hosted last spring by the Graduate Women in Business organization. Ilene Lang (right), president of Catalyst, the leading research organization on women in business, headed an impressive list of participants that also included Barbara Fergus, founder of Midwest Auto Group; Donna A. James, president of Nationwide Strategic Investments; Jill Dean, executive vice president of Victoria’s Secret Stores; Sandy Harbrecht, president of Paul Werth Associates; and Tanny Crane, president and CEO of Crane Group Co. Providing Consulting Talent to CompaniesFisher Professional Services (FPS) gives select students practical experience in consulting while providing strategic business solutions for major companies. Headed by a former partner in a top consultancy, FPS currently has more than eight projects under management that are staffed by over 30 MBA students. FPS’ projects include improvements in supply chain operations, valuation and business plan development and marketing strategy with companies such as Limited Brands, Michael Freres and Associates, American Electric Power, Reader’s Digest and United Way. |

Serving the Nonprofit CommunityA new outreach program, Fisher Board Fellows, places select MBA students on the boards of local nonprofit organizations as nonvoting fellows. Fellows participate in the governance process and gain handson business experience while using their professional skills to support a community organization. Regular board members act as partners and mentors to the fellows, furthering the partnership. Fisher Board Fellows is the brainchild of MBA student Wake Norris and has received strong support from the community, including relationships with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Greater Columbus Habitat for Humanity and Leadership Columbus. |

Competing Around the WorldFisher College’s MBA students took first place in the university’s inaugural KeyBank Interscholastic Minority Student Case Competition last March. Fisher College hosted the 13th Annual Big Ten Case Competition in April with support from the Ford Motor Company and full participation from all schools. Fisher College’s team of David Friedrich, Ray Vargas, Shibani Potnis and Matt Eisenacher won second place at the event. First place was awarded to Penn State and third place to the University of Wisconsin. All three teams will travel to Arizona in 2006 to represent the Big Ten at the “Rose Bowl of case competitions.” Fisher College’s MBA student team of Tim Hanley, Paul Nichols, Geoff Merchant and Brandon Micko took second place in the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s first MBA-level CIBER International Case competition in March and first among domestic teams. The Fisher College team had 24 hours to evaluate a case on the international business strategy of Danfoss, a leading firm in Denmark. First place was awarded to Copenhagen Business School. The CIBER competition is recognized for its unique emphasis on global business strategy. |
