As I look out of my window in Fisher Hall, I am
reminded of a warm June day in 1995 when a group of dedicated
friends gathered to celebrate the vision of a man who wanted to
help shape the future of management education. It is hard to believe
that five years have passed since the initial groundbreaking ceremonies
for the new Fisher College of Business. During that time Max Fishers
vision has become a reality. The Fisher complex is the largest
multi-building project ever undertaken in Ohio States history
and one of the few fully- integrated business campuses in the
country.
But the construction of our six-building, 390,000
square foot campus
has always been part of an effort that involved more than bricks
and mortar. More important than replacing old facilities, the
dream was to create buildings that served as enabling devices
for top quality academic programs. Our true focus has always been
on creating strong, innovative programs supported by state-of-the-art
facilities programs that support a high quality national
and international footprint for the Fisher College.
As you read through this years annual
report, I hope you will develop a sense of the ways that our
state-of-the-art facilities have enabled us to recruit a renowned
research and teaching faculty, attract top students from around
the world, collaborate more widely with national and international
corporations, and engage in creative learning experiences with
executives. Our exciting learning environment enables faculty
to deliver knowledge to students in new ways, as they make use
of web-based instructional tools, videoconferencing and other
real-time technologies. In effect we are now able to better design
and implement customized instructional experiences where delivery
techniques meet the unique needs of the learner as well as the
content being conveyed.
The foresight of Max Fisher and many others to develop
an institution that nurtures future business leaders at both undergraduate
and graduate levels is indeed having a significant impact. I invite
you to peruse the following pages to discover how our new surroundings
and the benefits of a successful $95.2 million capital campaign
are helping our students and faculty to lead change, manage technology
and create new knowledge.
Better yet, stop by and see for yourself.
I think you will be impressed.
