Dean's Advisory Council: Martin C. Murrer
Mr. Murrer formed Sagent Advisors Inc. together with Herald Ritch and Joel Cohen in 2003. Sagent Advisors is an Investment Bank providing financial advisory services to businesses in connection with mergers, acquisitions and other corporate transactions. Prior to Sagent, Mr. Murrer was a senior Managing Director in Merrill Lynch’s Merger and Acquisition Group from 2001-2003. Prior to Merrill Lynch, Mr. Murrer was a Managing Director with AEA Investors, a $1.1 billion private equity firm specializing in management buyouts. As a Managing Director of AEA, Mr. Murrer was responsible for a number of investments and a board member of Dal-Tile Corporation (the largest ceramic tile manufacturer), Li & Fund Distribution ($1 billion supply chain distributor into Asia), Marbo Inc. (a beverage concentrate company) and Sutton Place Gourmet (a gourmet retailer). From 1994-2002, Mr. Murrer was also a board member of PC Connection (a $1.3 billion direct marketer of technology equipment).
Prior to AEA Investors Mr. Murrer was a Managing Director at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in the Mergers & Acquisitions Department. He was the founder and co-head of DLJ’s Exclusive Sales Group from 1997-1999, which became the largest advisor of US seller advisory assignments in 1998-1999. Mr. Murrer began his investment banking career at Lehman Brothers Corporate Finance Group in 1981. He then joined Salomon Brothers in 1984 where he became a Director in the Mergers & Acquisitions Department. In 1990, he joined Goldman Sachs where he was in charge of the New England region in the firm’s Investment Banking Services group until 1995 when he joined DLJ.
In addition to his Board Membership at Sagent, Mr. Murrer became a principal investor and Board Member of Telco Inc. in 2004, a manufacturer of telecommunication and power equipment and components.
He received a BS from The Ohio State University in the College of Administrative Science in 1979 in which he graduated summa cum laude and an MBA from the Graduate School of UCLA in 1981 as an Edward Carter Scholar (top 2% of graduating class). Mr. Murrer is currently a Founding Board Member of the UCLA Graduate School Fink Center for Finance.
He is married to an Ohio State Graduate, Jean Ruman Murrer and has three children, one of whom is graduated with honors at The Ohio State University majoring in Finance. He is active in a number of Charities and is on the Board of Directors of Catholics Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.
