Dean's Advisory Council: Patrick J. Martin

Patrick J. Martin was lead director of Quest Telecommunications until its merger with CenturyTel in 2011.  In July 2000, Dr. Martin was elected chairman, president and chief executive officer of StorageTek, a company that provided easily managed and universally acceptable high capacity storage systems that offered enterprise-class reliability. He retired from StorageTek after it's merger with Sun Microsystems in 2005.

Prior to joining StorageTek, he spent 23 years with Xerox Corp. where he was a corporate senior vice president. Most recently he was president of the North American Solutions Group (NASG), Xerox's largest marketing operation, with responsibility for $8 billion in annual revenue. Martin also served as president of Xerox's largest business division, the Office Document Products Division, with worldwide revenue in excess of $8 billion, the largest of eight business divisions, focusing on the design, manufacture, and marketing of the industry's broadest line of office copiers and color document products.

Dr. Martin joined Xerox in 1977 as manager, planning and systems engineering for the data processing services division, and was later responsible for managing Xerox's systems research investment portfolios for the corporation. He then held various positions in the corporate strategy office. Dr. Martin was named director of systems for the corporate strategy office in 1985, and director, international systems marketing in the international operations staff in 1986. He was vice president and managing director for the China business development and South Pacific operations of Xerox Corporation's international operations from 1987 to 1991. His most recent assignment was president and general manager of America's Customer Operations, responsible for their delivery of Xerox products and services in 60 countries throughout South and Central America, as well as Canada, China, and Hong Kong.
